Spike Jonze has filmed skateboarders, singers, and actors, but his latest short just might feature you.
The director behind forthcoming Where the Wild Things Are, the music video for "Y-Control", and the cult classic hip-hop documentary What’s Up, Fatlip? is looking for a few good singers. While details of the project are scarce, the guidelines are pretty straightforward: Jonze wants YouTube videos of guys performing Of Montreal’s “The Past Is A Grotesque Animal.”
That means no help from girlfriends or breaking out your freestyle lyrics. He’s also requested that videos be kept to under two minutes, which means that you probably won’t be able to get through all of Kevin Barnes’ heartbreaking opus in the allotted time. Not like you’ll have time to do much else—the YouTube video links need to be emailed to info@squekeclean.com, along with your contact info, by midnight this Wednesday (August 13) in order to make the cut.
It’s not quite the same thing as showing off your nollie heelflip in a Spike Jonze-directed video, but it’s certainly a start.
