Sneak Attack

Rei Kawakubo might as well be on the cover of next month’s NYLON, because the already-awesome Japanese designer has just gotten even better. Known as the founder for Comme des Garcons [French for “like the boys”], the designer just announced a new collaboration with Converse, scheduled to debut at the end of August.

Inspired by Rei’s own love for the original Chuck Taylor, the Comme des Garcon PLAY collection consists of two high-top and two oxford versions in black or white canvas. Each shoe features the Comme des Garcons PLAY heart [the not-so-dainty signature motto with the glowing-cool eyes of a person who might kill your neighbor].

Shoes retail for $100 in unisex sizing, and the silhouette mocks that of the 1950’s vintage All Star model, originally produced for the US military. Check them out online or in the Comme des Garcons stores in New York, Paris, London, Hong Kong and Seoul.
