We’ll see you there!

We’ll see you there!

(Gossip Girl’s Penn Badgely and Blake Lively with 2008 CFDA winner, Alexander Wang)
Last night, I attended the CFDA/ Vogue Fashion Fund Awards hosted by Vogue editor, Anna Wintour, John Galliano and Charlize Theron. Ten up and coming designers were nominated for $100,000 prize and a year mentorship. They include: Alejandro Ingelmo, Obedient Son and Daughters, Irene Neuwirth, Vena Cava, Juan Carlos Obando, Alexander Wang, Albertus Swanepoel, Richard Chai, Organic, and Jason Wu. The evening very glamorous with great ambiance, delicious food, as well as so much hope and joy in the air.
And the 2008 CFDA winner is, drum roll…Alexander Wang! Runners up include Vena Cava’s Sophie Buhai and Lisa Mayock and hat designer, Albertus Swanepoel.

Spanish artist, Adrian Blanca celebrated his New York art opening at the éS Showroom on Thursday. Blanca has been on a worldwide tour stopping in: Stockholm, Amsterdam, London, Paris…and now here. In each location, he paints a permant installation which consists of intricate drawings of skateboard culture. In the NY éS Showroom, he has been continuously working on his installation and plans to until this weekend. In addition to the installation the show includes dozens of drawing and his collection with the Acell TTL and TT Deluxe. Overall, this is a awesome show you don’t want to miss.

P.S. Let me know what you think?
Tomorrow night, Justin Martin plays Sullivan Room to celebrate the release of his new exciting mix, Chaos Restored 2, on Buzzin´Fly. The boy has been pumping us up with his releases at the Dirty Bird label. With his older brother Christian, he’s known as the Martin Brothers - you know the guys behind Dum and Stoopit. His music is catchy as hell, interesting, quirky, and something to get down to on an otherwise dead Saturday night.
The party is hosted by Basic NYC, and there’s one bonus with the ticket prices being so high: you wont have to run into overly trendy hipsters, models or anything that is too beautiful or that will drive your attention away from the music. We are serious people, there for the music and maybe having a good time while focusing on following the beat or the wobbly bass. Well, see you there then.
-Mattis, The Norwegian.
Did you hear him? He is serious!
Former NYLON Guys staffer Alex Chow used to stay up all night playing World of Warcraft. While most of us at NYLON Guys aren’t THAT into video games, we like our Wii, Xbox, and ps3 as much as the next guy (just don’t tell any girls). Perhaps the best thing about video games these days is the commercials. Gaming is taking advertising more artistically than any other industry, crafting cinematic treatise that transcend the insular gamers world and touch upon topics that Super Mario never dreamed of. Above is the latest example from Gears of War 2, featuring the haunting “How It Ends” by Devotchka. After the jump, the classic Gears of War and Halo 3 commercials.

It’s sample sale season and one thing that sticks in our heads aside from the bargains is the raging headaches that fighting a crowd induces. Getting 70% off a Steven Alan plaid is nice but not worth risking life and limb. Thus the genius of INVEN.TORY. Think of it as a permanent, rotating sample sale at an exposed brick location in Nolita, not a dingy garment district warehouse. Designers like Corpus, Orthodox, Idol Radec, and Fremont offer their current seasons at last season’s prices (up to 60%-80% off). Bring the women in your life as there’s bargains to be had on their side of the chromosome from Camilla Staerk and others. Plus, I don’t remember hearing Pink Floyd and being offered a glass of wine at any sample sale I’ve been to.
On Wendesday November 12th, you should make this a priority because you know everyone else will. I’ll be djing and eating hors d’oeurves all night long…
check out LE NIGHT for the another special social gathering happening soon after this one.

Halloween + art school students = really good costumes.
I know that Halloween is over, but the Maryland Institute College of Art hosted it’s annual party and the costumes are worth seeing.
